Hi, I’m Minaret.
I’m the founder of MiniGem Comfort and I’m so glad you’re here. While my comfort packs grew out of a place of love and a desire to help the people I care about most, my journey began much differently and much farther away from the joy and compassion I know now.
I grew up in the small country town of Tumbarumba with my brother and our father Owen who was a sole parent. It was a broken home and my childhood was marked with trauma, abuse and hardship. It was only because of the support of three people — my Father, Grandmother and my dear friend Trish, who was a mother figure to me — that I was able to get through those struggles and come out the other side with a sense of empathy, gratitude, and love, as I grew with the challenges my brother and I faced.
We were shown the values of compassion, care and support for each other and others during difficult times.
These values stayed with me and when friends and family have struggled with mental health and illness these values, along with my desire to help people have led me to create MiniGem Comfort.
The first comfort pack that I put together was for Trish when she was diagnosed with cancer and was in Palliative care. I wanted to create some comfort and peace in a space that lacked both. I included items that are a part of the MiniGem Comfort pack I now offer others.
To this day, I am so grateful that I was able to give Trish that gift and hear how it helped her feel more like the room around her was her own, how it gave her that little bit of tranquility and warmth and made her space a little more comfortable.
Before she passed away, Trish told me “your pack might be a good idea for others in uncomfortable environments”, and that stuck with me.
So as a legacy to Trish’s memory and as a way to live more fully in my own life, I turned that gift I offered her, into something that I could offer everyone in need of comfort.
In creating the MiniGem Comfort pack, my hope is that a loved one’s well-being might improve when their five senses are in harmony, helping them to feel more comfortable, calm and safe and always reminded that there is someone who cares.
As human beings, we seek out comfort. We seek out love, familiarity and compassion.
It is my hope that MiniGem Comfort can be a warm offering of support to friends and loved ones who need it most, like a hug from a friend.
